Tour Plan
Drive south from Addis Ababa via Butajira. Stop at the UNESCO-listed Tiya Stelae and visit the Gurage villages. Continue through lush countryside to Arba Minch, a scenic town overlooking Lake Chamo and Lake Abaya.
Overnight: Arba Minch Lodge/Hotel
In the morning, visit the Dorze people in the highlands, known for their beehive-shaped huts and weaving traditions. Experience local culture and panoramic views. Then drive to Konso, home to terraced hills and the Konso people, recognized by UNESCO for their unique social traditions.
Overnight: Konso Lodge/Hotel
Head to Jinka, stopping at Key Afer if it’s Thursday to visit the colorful market where several tribes (Hamar, Tsemay, Ari) gather to trade goods. Arrive in Jinka, gateway to the Mago National Park.
Overnight: Jinka Lodge/Resort
Early morning drive into Mago National Park to visit the Mursi tribe, famous for women who wear clay lip plates and elaborate body art. After the visit, continue to Turmi, the land of the Hamar tribe.
Overnight: Turmi Lodge/Hotel
Spend the day exploring Hamar culture. Visit local villages and, if lucky, witness the bull-jumping ceremony, a rite of passage for young men. Experience traditional dances and community life.

Drive to the Omo River to meet the Karo tribe, known for elaborate body painting and scarification. Then continue to Omorate (border of Kenya) to visit the Dassanech tribe across the Omo River by local canoe. Return to Turmi for the night.

Drive north through scenic dry savannah and visit the Arbore tribe, known for their distinctive dress and hospitality. Continue to Arba Minch for a relaxing evening.

In the morning, take a boat trip on Lake Chamo to spot hippos and crocodiles. Then drive back to Addis Ababa, passing beautiful Rift Valley landscapes. Arrive in the evening—end of the tour.

It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
