Depart early from Addis Ababa and drive southwest toward Ambo (about 3.5–4 hours). Along the way, enjoy scenic views of Ethiopia’s highlands and farmlands. Stop in Ambo town, famous for its natural mineral water, for a short break before continuing to Wenchi Crater Lake.
Upon arrival, meet a local community guide and descend into the crater by foot or optional horse ride. Admire panoramic views of the lake, surrounding mountains, and small farms dotting the slopes.
Take a boat ride across the lake to visit the island monastery of Cherkos, said to date back to the 13th century. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the lakeshore and take time to relax amidst the tranquil scenery. In the late afternoon, ascend back to the rim and begin your return drive to Addis Ababa, arriving in the evening.

It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
